Have You Ever Wondered How to Love a Difficult Person?

Have you ever wondered how to love a difficult person? Aldous, our main character in The Hidden Diamond, exemplifies a difficult person to love. As this story evolves, you will discover why. How can we love someone who has caused great pain? How do you remain safe around a person with compromised standards? Answers will differ for each of you and each unique circumstance, but the need for healthy boundaries remains constant for us all.

In The Hidden Diamond, Dakota’s parents face this dilemma. They must find a way to reach out to an unsafe, unlovable neighbor while creating safe boundaries for their child.

Aldous

I created Aldous by conglomerating three dominant people from my past. Consequently, this story mirrors my life. However, I did not receive protection like Dakota had. As a result, I have had to trudge through the often-lonely path of healing.

I wrote The Hidden Diamond in first-person to draw my readers into my perpetrator’s mind. With this advantage, it is easier to remember that he, too, is a beloved child of God. All God’s creations are good and filled with Devine Love. It takes a barrage of wounds to plaster hatred over that Diamond heart. The only way to make it Hidden.

Many “Aldouses” have entered my life.

A photo of one of these Aldous-like people sits on my mantel. I did this to keep myself in a state of forgiveness. I do not endorse everyone engaging in this form of radical forgiveness, but for me, it helps. For decades, I could not have considered such an unconventional action. I am grateful that after much grueling healing work, I have evolved to where I now can.

This portrait displays a still-innocent young man. It sits in this prominent position as a constant reminder that regardless of sin, he is a child of God. He also remained beloved by his mother, someone I dearly revere. When alive, she lacked awareness of his crimes. If she had known, she would have loved him anyway. A mother who loves their children as God calls us to never casts them aside. With a forgiving heart, we ache for our children to seek God, the only way to unbury our inner Diamond.

Life’s path is not to be walked in isolation.

No one ever does. Even when we feel utterly alone, Jesus stays with us along our trial-riddled journey.

Since the beginning of time, people have puzzled over the baffling question of our purpose. The clear answer is to love as Jesus loves. We cannot do this disconnected from others. It can be too easy to pull away from “difficult people.” Often there is reason to do so, yet difficult people can become a catalyst for growth. The more proficiently we extend love to others, the closer we emanate Jesus. This achievement only occurs if we remain in a loving space.

I had to learn this harsh lesson.

To do so, I first created a safe space to formulate healthy, breathable boundaries. Next, I discovered how to love while within this refuge—not an easy undertaking. https://www.crystalmmhuntley.com/how-to-rebuild-your-foundation-and-remain-rooted/(opens in a new tab) Even so, we are here to master the skill of love. In so doing, we draw closer to Jesus.

We cannot love others without first loving ourselves. Our connection to Jesus rests within us. Healthy boundaries protect us, so the actions of others cannot sever our Jesus connection. Yes, God wants us to love the unlovable, and He also wants us to be loved.

How to Rebuild Your Foundation and Remain Rooted.

Some of us possess the blessing of having been born into a family that fosters a firmly rooted foundation, like my character Dakota in The Hidden Diamond. Others suffer from a severely cracked infrastructure, unable to support a healthy life. I, too, the same way as Aldous, The Hidden Diamond’s main character, came from a vastly fractured footing. But every foundation can be rebuilt, as I chose to do early on in my young adult life. It doesn’t matter when they embrace this monumental construction job during a person’s lifespan. For example, Aldous waited seven decades to begin his life’s journey overhaul.

This Cannot Be Done in Isolation.

Such an extensive construction job cannot be completed in isolation. This is because of two crucial elements necessary to succeed—education and installing healthy boundaries.

Scripting The Hidden Diamond became a critical tool that I utilized to forge a firm foundation beneath my feet. It also helped me raise sturdy walls to form safe, breathable boundaries.

Not for the Faint of Heart

This type of renovation job is not meant for the faint of heart. Even more, as you swing that sledgehammer and bust concrete from the original structure, you will find yourself amid a mess. Dust will fly, covering you in a thick shroud of darkness. Consequently, tearing down the old construction exposes you to long-forgotten taboo truths. https://www.crystalmmhuntley.com/make-your-choice-is-it-taboo-or-boundaries/(opens in a new

You will become reacquainted with the same taboo truths a younger you fiercely objected to as you tightly clenched cover-up lies that rationalized your former position. Don’t be surprised when these newly exposed and often harsh realities bring you to your knees in crippling grief. Keep in mind that no meaningful journey exists without pitfalls. Nevertheless, place a helmet of bravery upon your head and grasp God’s hand. You will make it to the other side and discover the reward far exceeds the effort.

Grace Enters

Part of any significant journey that stares truth in its face is an acceptance that, along the way, you will many times fail. And this is where grace enters.

It took me decades to accept such grace, freely offered to us all by our Lord. Within the abusive home I was raised in, we were not allowed to make mistakes or even inquire. As a result, even as I flounder today, which frequently happens, I easily fall into that same black hole forged from lies carved into me as a child. Yet, as I grow with the knowledge of more truth, I tetter less often. Recently I heard the whisper that each mistake allows me an opportunity to experience God’s grace. I hold this truth close to my heart, knowing it came directly from God.

How to Let the Soft Whisper Guide Your Way?

Will you let the Small Voice guide your way? Listen to the Still Small Voice over the loud and the demanding.

Listen to the Soft Whisper

It took me years to learn to hear God’s soft whisper—a drastic contrast to how my parents raised me. While very young, I learned to tune my ear into the slightest hint of hysteria and then reacted accordingly. Our Fight-or-Flight methodology that our Good Lord installed in us was placed there for our physical survival. Due to that fact, great necessity resided in that deeply woven genetic trait. Yet, this instinctive attribute competes with our ability to hear that Small Voice our Savior speaks with.

Complex CPTSD

My past included a railway of incidents that led to the formation of Complex CPTSD. It took decades of healing. I had to develop trust before I could disregard that voice of panic. Then I could train my ear to hear that faint whisper within that ultimately leads me to freedom and peace.

Breathe into the Space of Peace.

My oldest son, Josh, who teaches New Beginnings Tia Chi https://www.facebook.com/groups/288997984909570 and other forms of Martial Arts frequently works with me. I believe God gifting my child with this talent is one way He has chosen to heal my wounded soul. I practice settling my thoughts and breathing into the space of peace. Only by mastering this skill, even amid the fiercest storm, can I detect God’s faintest whisper. Yet, my instincts tug at my every cell, imploring me to react to that loud, overbearing panic. Consequently, I take the giant leap to ignore their pleas and instead do what this whisper tells me to do.

When I first started my blog site, I fought through this cycle of events almost daily. New to the world of blogging, and although I love to write, I find it quite baffling to place my words into a blog format. Multiple times I have made feeble attempts to take this leap only to drift away from that disciplined activity. But this infrequent drive became a necessity now that my first book, The Hidden Diamond, is in print. Being an official, published author forces me to venture out of my comfort zone.

Master New Skills

Now I am exploring a foreign land that requires me to master new skills, which can be an overwhelming quest. This morning I rose early, as typical, knowing I needed to plow into this still new, cumbersome adventure. As I pondered how to begin, doubt seeped in, and the panic volume dialed up. But rewards come with years of fostering healthier methodologies of existence. Especially during these past few years, I have learned how to detect God’s soothing voice, silent as an opening bud. When I hear GOD’s whisper, I set the arduous internal rhetoric, like an impatient, demanding child, gently aside and obey. So here it is, written within the words of this blog.

Make Your Choice, Is It Taboo or Boundaries

Taboo or Boundaries? Today’s society is becoming increasingly aware of the numerous taboo topics that have infiltrated people since the fall of humankind. We can all be grateful that far fewer forbidden issues now exist than had in past generations. Taboo topics repress and isolate us like a concrete wall with an iron-clad gate. However, this can be overcome by properly formed boundaries, which provide healthy barriers. A healthy barrier acts like our lungs. They expand as we breathe in oxygen, then contract as we expel unwanted products.

Our Main Character from The Hidden Diamond.

Aldous represents someone who transcends into a space of healthy boundaries from what once was taboo. The topic of his sin only recently found acknowledgment within our current news. Yet, it still remains an uncomfortable subject of discussion to many. All victims of this heinous crime must speak out if they are to fully heal. As we dare vocalize and publicize this violation, we open doors for others who have fallen victim to walk through.

True Healing

True healing cannot occur without space in your heart for forgiveness. The two come hand in hand. I understand that this is an unpopular view for many. We may never know why our perpetrators did what they did. Often, as in the case of Aldous, a wounded person never begins a healing journey. Instead, they attempt to bury their overabundance of hurt and shame. The problem with this method is that it does not work. Like any poisonous chemical buried within the soil, it ultimately will bleed into our water system. In the same way, our buried wounds also seep into our blood. Contamination becomes inevitable.

Not Merely a Survivor, Thrive in Life!

I wrote The Hidden Diamond with this core thought in mind. As I stated in my bio, I am numbered among the countless others victimized by these unimaginable crimes. I am blessed today to say that I am not merely a survivor but a thriver. This transformation occurred because I grasped Jesus’ hand and allowed Him to guide me down a path that led to healing. That path included extended forgiveness for my perpetrators, who also are children of God.

Revealing My Healing – Discover the Miraculous Truth!

Revealing my healing – discover the miraculous truth. Many have asked how I got out of the wheelchair after over a decade of being bound to its confinements. In all honesty, I would not be who I am today without the miracles and blessings of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Because of this, I wish to share My Healing – the Miraculous Truth.

The Behind Story

Since childhood, I was weak and sickly, unable to run and play like most kids. Indisputably something was not right with me. As a result, my limbs felt like they would yank from their joints. An everyday weakness that intensified as I aged, affecting every area of my body. For decades, I tried to get medical care with little or no avail until I moved to remote Michigan’s UP. There I found doctors who could help me. God brought me where He wanted me to be and provided all my needs so I could glorify Him.

God Leads Me to Where I need to Be.

By my mid-thirties, my legs shook and crumbled like a ragdoll. When I attempted to walk, my limbs would twist inward and fold. Finally, I found an excellent team of doctors with the skills to care for my extensive needs. This team included CP, COF Lynn Vanwelsenaers, who wanted me to try a newly developed system called NewGait https://thenewgait.com. While still in its early stages of development, the inventors of NewGait created it to increase long-distance runners’ performances. Lynn and her colleagues wanted to experiment with this system on people with impairments who needed rehabilitation. I met the requirements. The experiment proved successful as its bands and bungee cords provided much-needed stability and straightened my legs.

God uses the resources He creates and always provides. Our limited lives often keep us from recognizing His techniques because God works in His time and His way. After I became proficient in walking with NewGait, I contacted my oldest son. Josh Roberts, founder of New Beginnings Tia Chi https://www.facebook.com/groups/288997984909570 and Walking to Peace (4) Walking to Peace | Facebook, is a Tai Chi master and personal trainer. God planted within him the skill to teach me the whole-body exercises I needed to build up my muscles. And now I walk unaided.

Today

My walking is a miracle. Yet, some have severely chastised me because I still suffer from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Even though I now walk, my body remains riddled with multiple effects of this dreaded syndrome. The genetic doctor who diagnosed me said it is common for people with this condition to become wheelchair-bound or worse. But never before my case had he heard of someone with this condition who worked their way out of lameness.

My life consists of frequent medical appointments. I must dedicate at least half an hour daily to specific exercises to keep my muscles strong. I tire easily, quickly grow weak, and suffer in many more ways, but still, God healed me! God’s healing does not necessarily mean He takes away all ailments. In (2 Cor. 12: 7-10) Paul speaks of the “thorn” that God, the master of all, did not remove. God chooses what and whom to heal. He does it in His timing and for His glory and the creation of His work. To paraphrase Apostle Paul, God’s grace is sufficient. His power is made perfect in my weakness. “When I am weak, then I am strong.”

It Warmed My Heart

It warmed my heart to see the large number of people who braved the blustery weather to support our Veterans’ Honor Flight by attending Daffodil Dayz. I, indeed, thank you as the event was a huge success.

I also wish to thank the many of you who came by my table and purchased my book, The Hidden Diamond. It exhilarates me to know how many copies rest in the hands of readers. I am thrilled to share my healing journey with all who read my story through this personised work of fiction. In short, truth rests at the root of all profoundly captivating fictional-based books. Because of this, I utilize actual events within my life as the source of my novels. To write The Hidden Diamond,  I clung to my faith, for I cannot lean on my own ability to accomplish such a task.

Many People Have Inquired

After over ten years of lameness, I no longer depend on a wheelchair. Because of this fact, many have inquired about the story that exists behind how that happened. As a result, next week I will share how God restored my ability to walk. https://www.crystalmmhuntley.com/?s=Revealing+My+Healing+-+the+Miraculous+Truth Without that restoration, I could never have participated in Daffodil Dayz.

God’s grace is sufficient. His power is made perfect in my weakness. (2 Cor. 12:9) paraphrased.

“When I am weak, then I am strong.”

God Uses My weakness.

God continuously uses my weakness so that I will always lean on him. To have the strength to participate in a whole-day event like a book signing at Daffodil Dayz can only happen by trusting in my Lord. On my own, I never could have made this achievement.

God restored my ability to walk, but He did not heal me from the devastating syndrome that caused me to lose that capability. Due to Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, I typically lose strength after only a few hours of mild excursion and frequently require an entire day to recover. Because of this syndrome, my jaw detaches whenever I open it. Talking brings on great pain, and my body responds with stuttering and shaking—not what people want to see at an author’s event. Regardless, I trust in my Lord, who never lets us down. I rejoice in the strength my Savior gave me to make it through that day extraordinarily well.

God gave me the ability to write, and part of writing is to engage with the public about my books. God works His strength through our weakness. I maintain faith He will always provide what is needed to bring about His mighty work. His strength carries me through. “When I am weak, then I am strong.” My weakness equips me with a personal reason to testify of God’s strength.

Dont Stop! We All Need to Be Encouraged.

Writing has always come easily to me, but taking the necessary steps that followed the publishing of my first manuscript threw me into a near breakdown. I am a writer by nature, not a computer wizard. Navigating these mysterious passageways of the computer world baffles me. I often need encouragement’s empowerment to keep me capable of moving forward.

From early on, I have desired to write for God. I would awaken each morning and boldly whisper these words. Dear God, what do You want me to put down into words today?” This resourceful system worked as inspirational thoughts flowed through my fingers and transformed into typed words onto a document.

To be fair, my efficient methodology disregards the editing and grammar parts, especially spelling. Due to this reason, I adore being a writer in the age of computers. I never have to suffer the grueling labor of word-by-word inking in a full three-hundred-page manuscript. But then I entered the realm of asserting myself to the world. My mind drifted from, “What would You, Lord, want me to write?” to “What would gain me more readers?

Before starting this blog, I plowed forth creating “Crystalisms.” With bold enthusiasm, I posted them on my Facebook group. I made each one from captivating photos my sweetie and I took over the years. When I saw reactions and comments from my loyal followers, it filled me with warmth and encouragement. But as time marched on—by time, I am referring to less than a year—my numbers remained small in scale. I fell into the trap of discouragement.

Help Me, God

More than once, I toyed with the idea of quitting. But God kept me from making that formidable mistake by placing a pertinent scripture to mind, II Chronicles 15:7 (LB) “Keep up the good work and don’t get discouraged, for you will be rewarded.” He also re-enlightened me to Ezra 5:5 (LB) “But because the Lord was overseeing the entire situation, our enemies did not force us to stop building.” Soon, those words adapted in my thoughts into this personalized version—“Because Jesus oversees my writing career, enemies cannot stop it.”

Soon I gained confidence in the realization that it does not matter how many people follow my blog and other social media sites or read my books. All that matters is that I continue to write for God. I admit that on and off, I must assure myself with a pep talk to keep me from falling into the trap of discouragement. To not teeter, I taped both scriptures onto the keyboard of my computer. That way, I always have that powerful reminder.

My Mission

Two internal topics woven within my writing are threads of overcoming abuse and finding the ability to forgive. These threads have evolved into a mission for me. My faith drives me to shine a light on truth while offering a torch of forgiveness. Healing cannot occur in isolation. Because of this reality, I am honored to reach out to you.
